American Citizens. American Representation.

Every ten years, the Census determines more than America's population.

It determines how political power is divided among the states for the next decade.

Under the current system, noncitizens are included when determining how many seats each state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives.

That means individuals who are not American citizens can still affect the distribution of representation in Congress.

Now, Congress is pushing back.

The Equal Representation Act would require the Census to collect citizenship-status information and base congressional apportionment on the population of U.S. citizens.

H.R. 151 has already advanced through committee in the House, while its Senate companion, S. 2205, is awaiting action.

The momentum is building.

H.R. 151 has 65 cosponsors and S. 2205 already has 20.

Please make sure your representatives are on that list!
