<h3>Sri Lanka’s animals have waited long enough for stronger protection. The country’s main animal cruelty law dates to 1907, yet its general cruelty offense carries a maximum fine of only 100 Sri Lankan rupees.</h3> <h3>The Animal Welfare Bill would replace it with stronger penalties and protections. Cruelly killing an animal could bring a fine of up to 500,000 Sri Lankan rupees, up to three years in prison, or both.</h3> <h3>The bill would also punish cruelty, abandonment, and deliberate deprivation of food, water, or shelter.</h3> <h3>Bring the Animal Welfare Bill to Parliament now.</h3> <h3>Do not leave Sri Lanka’s animals under a 119-year-old cruelty law while a new law is ready to move forward.</h3>
