America Must Not Side with Russia

I am appalled that the president is turning American policy upside down by rewarding Russia while punishing Ukraine for resisting aggression. Russia invaded its neighbor, seized territory, and continues attacking civilians. Yet the president has waived major sanctions against Moscow and pursued Russian energy purchases while allowing restrictions on capabilities Ukraine needs to defend itself. The aggressor receives concessions while the victim faces additional pressure. This is a profound moral failure.
The principle at stake is simple: might does not make right. America cannot credibly defend national sovereignty and the rule of law while treating conquest as a bargaining advantage. If powerful nations are rewarded for invading weaker neighbors, the lesson is that aggression works. That is precisely the dangerous worldview American leadership should resist, not reinforce.
The president's approach is also strategically self-defeating. Putin has little incentive to stop fighting if continued aggression brings further American concessions, while Ukraine is pressured to accept terms that may leave it vulnerable to another invasion. Peace achieved by making the aggressor stronger and the defender weaker is unlikely to last. Worse, America will have helped establish a precedent that threatens its own security and the international order.
I urge you to oppose the diesel deal and support the NOPE Act (S.4421). Please demand a full accounting and restoration of Starshield, and insist on reversing the unjustified waivers of the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act. Congress must reject this shameful inversion of justice and refuse to let American power serve Russian aggression.

The president claims to pursue peace through strength, yet his recent decisions demonstrate extraordinary weakness before Putin. He has waived major sanctions intended to pressure Russia, pursued a deal to import Russian diesel, and allowed Ukraine's military communications capabilities to be restricted. Rather than demanding concessions from the country responsible for the war, he is applying pressure to the country defending itself. That is not strength. It is capitulation disguised as diplomacy.
America possesses enormous economic, military, and diplomatic leverage. But that power means little if our president is unwilling to use it against an aggressor. By lifting pressure without securing meaningful Russian concessions, he gives Putin fewer reasons to negotiate seriously. By weakening Ukraine's defenses, he reduces the costs Moscow faces for continuing its aggression. America is surrendering bargaining advantages it should be using to secure a just and durable peace.
The consequences extend far beyond Ukraine. Every adversary watching these decisions can see that American pressure may evaporate if it simply holds out long enough. Every ally must wonder whether Washington will honor its commitments when they matter most. The president's personal weakness is becoming a source of national weakness, eroding American deterrence, credibility, and influence.
Please oppose the Russian diesel deal and support H.R. 10828 to reimpose sanctions. Demand accountability and full restoration of Starshield, and insist that the president reverse the sweeping waivers of the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act. Congress must restore the pressure on Russia that the president has surrendered.
