Stand up for survivors of human trafficking
Last week, survivors of human trafficking came to Annapolis to share with you about the life-changing effects the True Freedom Act of 2020 will provide. From breaking down barriers to employment, education, and housing, to finally ridding survivors of unfair criminal records — for some survivors, it could mean removing as many as 30 or more convictions from their record of low-level crimes they were forced by their trafficker to commit — HB 242 / SB 206 will help the survivors of these heinous crimes get their lives back.
There is widespread support for this legislation. It has the backing of anti-trafficking attorneys and experts, the Office of the Public Defender, the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Association, elected officials from all over the state, the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force, numerous local human trafficking task forces, and individuals like me. There is no opposition to this bill.
I am asking that you please vote YES on HB 242 / SB 206, and help provide relief to those brave survivors who escaped the horrors of human trafficking.
