Thank Sen. Schatz and Hirono for Supporting Families
Thank you for supporting the Families First Coronavirus Response Act recently passed in the House.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act provides workers 10 paid sick days and up to three months of paid family and medical leave for workers dealing with COVID-19 related issues – marking the first time the House has passed paid time to care, a moment made possible by the groundbreaking work of our network and partners over the past 16 years. The bill also offers enhanced unemployment insurance; strengthened nutrition security initiatives; and an increase in federal funds for Medicaid.
These measures are crucial to protect all of us. An estimated 32.5 million people in the U.S. do not have access to a single paid sick day. Only 19 percent of workers have access to longer-term paid leave through their employers. Without immediate action, more people will be exposed to the virus, more families will lose loved ones, and more businesses will experience losses. We urgently need both paid sick days and longer-term paid leave.
We know you are doing all you can to get this moving quickly into law. We also know you know how important it is to protect the health, economic security and well-being of all people in the U.S during this pandemic. It shouldn’t take a pandemic to remind us that our nation does best when everyone has time to heal and provide care for those they love.
Mahalo for all you are doing and we wanted you to know we appreciated the work you are doing.
