Please, vote NO on HB30 in the Cities and Counties Subcommittee on February 8.
It is common for the law to provide restrictions on adult entertainment and it is common for the law to include a definition of its terms. But that does not mean that the law can reinvent the meanings of words. Drag performances are not adult entertainment. No legislation can or should try to conjure that reality.
I support the First Amendment. Freedom of artistic expression is an important American value that I cherish. I do not want the government determining what kinds of clothing and costumes people wear based on gender. Drag performances are not dangerous and do not deserve the kind of scrutiny or burdensome licensing requirements exhibited in this bill.
