Please, vote NO on HB30 in House Finance subcommittee on February 22.
Regardless of the fiscal note, you cannot put a price on freedom. Based on the discussion and questions in the Cities and Counties Subcommittee, it is not clear what kinds of performances are covered and not covered by the bill. Please, ask the sponsor some clarifying questions during the committee hearing. The amendment did not resolve the ambiguity.
I support the First Amendment. Freedom of artistic expression is an important American value that I cherish. I do not want the government determining what kinds of clothing and costumes people wear based on gender. Drag performances are not dangerous and do not deserve the kind of scrutiny or burdensome licensing requirements exhibited in this bill.
Thank you for considering my views.
