Please, vote NO on HB1411 in the K-12 Subcommittee on February 28.
The overall problem with the bill is that it has burdensome requirements for students, parents, and school personnel to fill out permission forms all the time. There is an additional burden for schools to maintain copies of these forms and keep track of which students are allowed to participate in particular activities and instruction.
If the Family Life Curriculum is approved by the state and the local school district, if a survey is approved by the school, and if a club is approved by the school, then the default position should be there is a way to opt out for parents who have concerns. It should not require everyone to take a step to opt in.
The bill also does not specifically address whether students 18 and older are required to get parental permission. That should have been made clear in the bill.
