Vote NO on HB1233

Dear [title] [last name],

Please, vote NO on HB1233 on March 9 in the House K-12 subcommittee. This bill forces school districts to make accommodations for people who do not want to share space with transgender people.

The Legislature has not taken action to protect and support transgender people. In fact, harmful legislation has advanced this year. This bill improperly dignifies the idea that it is acceptable not to share space with transgender students, which further stigmatizes them.

As of March 4, no fiscal note had been prepared for the bill, but the Legislature should carefully consider the cost of these accommodations as well as the human costs.

Thank you for considering my views.

summary

This bill says it makes accommodations for all children. It actually requires schools to make accommodations if someone doesn't want to be in the same space as a transgender person. The Legislature does nothing to protect transgender people, just the people who don't want to be around trans people.
