No special session for bathroom discrimination

Please, do not vote to convene a special session of the Tennessee General Assembly to take up legislation restricting students to bathrooms based on their birth certificates.  It is costly to convene a special session and it will be costly and wrong to take on the federal government on this issue.  The state should never waste money on discriminatory legislation.

Transgender people are not a risk to others in school restrooms.  And bathroom policies do not bear any relation to crime statistics.  If the Legislature wants to take serious action to protect women and girls from violence, then the members should explore expanding programs that combat domestic violence.
