Dear Google Doodles Team,
Greetings on the consistently excellent and innovate approach to learning adopted by Google Doodles. It has greatly helped people across the globe learn about history, cultures, technology, art, politics, and leading figures in these spheres of work, among many other things. Google Doodles, in its own way, is promoting learning that helps bring people together from various cultures.
Today, I am writing to you to express my surprise at not seeing any Google doodle celebrating International Yoga Day. I wish to propose that Google Doodles celebrate "International Yoga Day" with immediate effect and have a yearly Doodle celebrating this important day.
World over, more and more people are taking to Yoga as a complete and holistic way to improve mental and physical well-being. Numerous medical studies have also shown the effectiveness of Yoga in treating or preventing various ailments.
In its acknowledgement of International Yoga Day 2021, the United Nations stated that yoga has played a "significant role in the psycho-social care and rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients in quarantine and isolation" and has particularly been "helpful in allaying their fears and anxiety." Based on that, UN has declared the theme of International Yoga Day 2021 to be "Yoga for well-being."
International Yoga Day was first proposed by India in 2014 and adopted by a record 175 countries, thus showing its impact and popularity around the world. It is a gift of the Hindus to make the world a more peaceful, happy, and united place.
Furthermore, companies across the globe (including Google) have programs where yoga trainers are invited to hold classes and employees are greatly benefiting from learning yoga on campuses. College and university campuses also have student groups that get together to practice yoga. In this way, yoga is proving a means to not only enhance and promote a healthy lifestyle but is also bringing people together from across cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds. There are several celebrities and popular figures who have attested to and endorsed the practice of yoga. Yoga is also the only form of safe exercise for many people who are undergoing treatments for physical or other health conditions.
Likewise, leading news outlets have published various articles on how International Yoga Day is being celebrated in the United States and around the world. Social and mainstream media are flooded with many videos and images of people celebrating International Yoga Day and sharing their benefits from practicing yoga.
Given all the benefits, widespread acceptance and celebration of yoga by global citizens, it only behooves Google to have a doodle celebrating International Yoga Day - not just this year but every year starting today.
I urge the Google Doodles team to consider this proposal seriously.
