Dear owners and executives of Fox News,
We, the undersigned, ask for the removal of Tucker Carlson's "Patriot Purge" series on Fox Nation.
The series already, with the promo and episode 1, exacerbates extremism through disinformation.
The "true story" of the January 6 riots, the promo declares is "War on Terror 2.0," a "plot against the people." This is followed by, "The domestic war on terror is here. It's coming after half the country." And, "The Left is hunting the Right, sticking them in Guantanamo Bay for American citizens, leaving them there to rot."
Images of torture, detention, and police knocking down doors are meant to instill fear in Carlson's viewers that the government is coming after them and they must protect themselves with firearms.
Further, the promo claims the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots "may have been" a "false flag" operation. In episode 1, Carlson claims that the media, Democratic Party leaders, federal agents, and "outside agitators" are responsible for instigating the Capitol riots, and the U.S. government is using the riots as an excuse to launch a second War on Terror against its own citizens.
This is dangerous. Tucker is leading people to believe they must take up arms to defend themselves from our own government. We worry about the harm and destruction this could inspire.
This is not an issue of press freedom, which we support. This is not an issue of cancel culture, which we despise. This is about protecting civil society. Carlson has a right to spew his nonsense, but you're not obligated to let him do it from your network. We implore you: Don't let Carlson use your network to spread disinformation, exacerbate political extremism, and incite violence.
