Please, vote NO on SB2153 and SB1861 when they come to the Senate floor on April 11.
I oppose both bills on substantive grounds because they involve discrimination against transgender student athletes and interference in areas where athletic governing bodies are better qualified to make rules. We should be looking for paths for everyone to participate because of the mental health and physical benefits.
There are new reasons to take the fiscal note seriously and reject these bills. On March 31, 2022, the U.S. Department of Justice sent a letter to every state attorney general saying that discrimination against transgender youth is sex discrimination and that it risks funding for states participating in federal programs. Please, take a step back from all the hype surrounding this legislation and protect all students and our federal funding.
