Please, vote NO on HB1215 in the Insurance Committee on February 21.
During discussions of the bills banning gender-affirming care for youth, we have been told that no one cares what people do when they are 18. This bill shows that that is not true. This bill attempts to use TennCare to prevent insurers from supporting gender-affirming care for adults.
Using a healthcare system to get less healthcare for people who need it is a monstrous application of public policy.
Gender-affirming care is life-saving. According to van der Meison et al (2020), transgender and gender non-conforming individuals have shown positive mental health outcomes with access to gender-affirming care.
I also wonder whether we will have any MCOs left since other states larger than Tennessee require reimbursement of gender-affirming care. Tennessee cannot live with the consequences of this bill.
Thank you for considering my views.
