Please, vote NO on HB306 and HB1269 in the Education Administration Committee on March 1.
HB306: The amendment made the bill worse. The bill now uses TSSAA to force private schools into situations where they have to discriminate against transgender athletes. This is government overreach.
HB1269: On March 31, 2022, the U.S. Department of Justice sent a letter to every state attorney general saying that discrimination against transgender students is sex discrimination and that it risks funding for states participating in federal programs. Please, read the fiscal note on the bill. But even if there were no risk to education funding, it is important to create a supportive environment for every student. Using a student's pronouns is a form of basic respect and I urge you to speak out on the side of students.
The Legislature must focus on helping all youth flourish.
