Please, vote YES on SB290/HB370 when the bill comes before legislative health committess. Tennessee should actively seek and accept federal HIV program funding.
Forty-one of TN’s 95 counties are among the US counties most vulnerable to HIV and Hepatitis C outbreaks due in large part to injection drug use. It cost Scott Co, Indiana more than $58 million to address their HIV outbreak in 2015. Having the support of the CDC, with its wealth of data and evidence-based programming, increases our ability to protect the lives and health of all Tennesseans. The broad array of people and organizations working together to stop the spread of HIV in Tennessee have demonstrated great success because they bring decades of experience, long-established relationships with each other and those who are most at risk, and a wide array of hard earned expertise. Federal funding can fuel these efforts.
Without this vital funding, the net result would be more infections and dramatic increases in costs to our state.
