I am a member of the colorectal cancer community, and I am writing to ask you to support increased and sustained funding for medical and scientific research, as well as cancer prevention programs in the fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills. Federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), and others need long term-and sustained funding to perform critical research, advance science, discover more effective treatment options, and provide preventive services, like colorectal cancer screening in underserved communities.
The United States has made enormous strides in the fight against cancer, but there is still more work to be done. I urge you to oppose any spending cuts to cancer research and prevention programs in the fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills. Lives are at stake.
