Keep LGBT protections for Knox County Schools employees

I have learned that Knox County Schools is considering eliminating "actual or perceived gender" and "sexual orientation" from the school district's employment non-discrimination policy and I oppose this move.

It puts good teachers and other employees who are or may be perceived to be part of the LGBT community at risk.  It hurts the ability of Knox County Schools to be a competitive employer by telling talented people that they are not welcome.  And it draws negative national attention to the school system.

Many private employers in the area proudly include sexual orientation and gender identity in their employment non-discrimination policies.  Metro Nashville Public Schools, Tennessee Board of Regents schools, and the University of Tennessee all include sexual orientation and gender identity in their employment non-discrimination policies.

Most importantly, the City of Knoxville and Knox County include sexual orientation and gender identity in their employment non-discrimination policies.  Teachers and other employees of Knox County Schools deserve the same policy.

Thank you for considering my views.
