I ask you to vote NO on the "natural marriage" resolution offered by the Patriot's Brigade of Tennessee.
The resolution puts the County in the position of demeaning a group of its residents who have entered or may enter lawful marriages.
The resolution will tarnish the county's image and give employers pause as they consider whether to move to Hamblen County or to expand their presence.
The resolution could result in the county owning any discrimination committed by any county official. It could be perceived as a license to discriminate. If discriminatory incidents occur, the county will surely be taken to court and lose, resulting in a negative financial impact.
No good can come from advancing this resolution. I urge you to withdraw it or to vote NO if it comes before the Commission.
