Please, withdraw HB1488. The Legislature should not direct the Attorney General to defend public schools that discriminate against people based on their gender identity. Such a move is questionable under our State Constitution and involves the State of Tennessee in sex discrimination, which would prove costly to defend when one considers the number of school districts in the state.
Defending school districts that demean transgender students and employees is an outrageous use of state resources and personnel.
This bill paints a target on Tennessee. We do not want to become the next North Carolina.
Morally, constitutionally, and financially this bill is wrong for Tennessee.
