Please, vote NO on HB54 when it comes before you yet again on March 14. This bill takes tools away from state government and local governments in their dealings with private contractors, vendors, and grantees.
The bill could interfere with economic development incentives that allow government to attract good jobs to Tennessee. It might prevent school districts from requiring companies with which they contract to have background checks since that would be an internal policy. That would be a disaster, for example, with companies that provide bus drivers or janitorial services.
It would open the door to taxpayer funded discrimination,too.
No one seems to be calling for this bill publicly. Why does it keep coming up?
