Do not advance HB54 on Wednesday

Please, vote NO on HB54 when it comes up for discussion on Wednesday in the State Government Subcommittee.

The bill takes tools away from the state government and from local governments in the contracting process.  School districts need to know whether companies with which they contract for bus drivers or janitors do background checks.  That is the kind of internal business policy that the bill could prohibit governments from considering in their bidding process.  If state government or local governments did use such criteria in their bidding process, the bill exposes them to more litigation that could prove expensive.

The bill would likely inolve the state government and local governments in taxpayer funded discrimination.

I am asking you not to allow the bill to get out of the State Government Subcommittee.  Thank you for considering my views.
