Summary
The TN PAWS Act (HB0852/SB1277) will overhaul animal laws in TN, providing stronger protection to innocent, voiceless, victimized animals. It will provide harsher penalties against animal abusers and greater assistance to law enforcement and rescue groups who assist victimized animals.

Under current TN law, animal abusers often do not get any jail time and, without repercussions, move on to prey upon other vulnerable victims such as children and the elderly. The PAWS Act will help stop this!
The TN PAWS act will keep law enforcement agencies, shelters and rescue groups from facing crippling expenses caring for abused animals while their abusers await trial by mandating that the abuser pay mandatory amounts to care for the animals or surrender them for adoption.
The TN PAWS Act will take TN from a “middle tier” state to a “top tier” state with respect to animal protection laws.
