Drop HB1151 on Monday

Since its introduction, HB1151 has caused nothing but fear.  It has traded on the myth that transgender people are a danger to others in locker rooms and restrooms at a time when transgender people are actually at a high risk of being assaulted themselves.

The bill has thankfully been amended to remove the language in the original bill that directly targets the transgender community, but the fear remains that the bill would be misused for the same ends.  Legislators in committee have commented that the amended bill merely restates current law.  If that is the case, then there is no reason to proceed.

Continuing with the bill runs the risk that it could be amended again to the detriment of transgender people.

I urge the House to drop this bill.  Thank you for considering my views.
