Take Action to Protect Children with Asthma!
Dear [title] [last name],
I am writing to you to ask you to save lives. By co-sponsoring this bill: HB 2958/SB 2362, you could improve the health outcomes of Illinois children with asthma.
HB 2958/SB 2362 will provide Illinois schools with access to life-saving asthma medications. In August 2018, Illinois became the 11th state to pass stock asthma medication legislation which allows all schools to maintain a stock of undesignated asthma rescue medications for asthma emergencies among students. When asked about barriers to implementation, the second most frequent response was that schools lack the money to pay for the undesignated asthma medications. The "stock albuterol" law does not require that schools maintain emergency asthma relief medication, but HB 2958/SB 2362 will provide up to $400,000 to support the purchase of asthma medications for those schools that choose to do so.
How impactful is asthma in Illinois children?
- There are nearly 255,000 children living with asthma in Illinois, according to the CDC.
- Most of these children (85%) are school age, between five and 17 years old.
- Asthma remains the leading cause of school absenteeism due to a chronic condition.
Passing HB 2958/SB 2362 would improve outcomes for children all over Illinois. Please co-sponsor this bill to show the importance of helping impact the future of children with asthma.
